The Wenner-Gren Center was built in 1959-1961. The building was then Sweden's first high-rise building in steel construction and for a period was Europe's tallest building with a steel frame. It is 82 meters high and has 25 floors. Architects were Sune Lindström and Alf Bydén. In addition to the high-rise building, there is also a lower, semi-circular building that accommodates guest researcher housing according to Wenner-Gren's wishes. The Wenner-Gren Center at the northern end of Sveavägen has been a classic landmark in Stockholm ever since it was built in 1962. Brasserie Astoria has a history of international glory, as the it spot for urban Stockholmers back in the 20s and 30s. In a time where war and depression created a need to escape the harsh reality, the former cinema became a place where entertainment and socializing was in focus.
Astoria of today wants to recreate the international and elegant experience with a strong focus on warm, knowledgeable service.
