LANDMARK BUILDING »OSCAR I MINNE« TO REOPEN AS »STOCKHOLM STADSHOTELL«
A hospitality group based in Stockholm and New York will breathe new life into the historic building located at Björngårdsgatan 23, re-opening it as “Stockholm Stadshotell”. It will include 32 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a bar, guest lounge and a courtyard / garden restaurant.
The landmark building, which dates back to 1870, was acquired by Vasaparken in 2019 and is being carefully restored in close collaboration with the Stockholm Stadshotell team. Located in the Södermalm neighborhood of Stockholm, the building was commissioned by Queen Josephina as a tribute to the memory of King Oscar I. Due to its significant cultural and historical importance, the building has been awarded the highest form of building maintenance protection.
Stockholm Stadshotell and its restaurants are owned and operated by Johan Agrell, Fredrik Carlström, Dan Källström, Jon Lacotte, and Ian Nicholson. This team has decades of diverse and international experience and past projects include some of the world’s most iconic hotels such as The Mercer, Chateau Marmont, Soho Grand, The Standard, and Faena. They are also behind Alma, the much lauded members' club and co-working space, Austere, a hybrid design gallery and showroom located in Los Angeles and New York, and renowned restaurants Fäviken and Frantzén as well as several of Stockholm's most beloved neighborhood restaurants, including Restaurang Babette, Schmaltz, Tengu and Café Nizza, located just a short walk from the new hotel. stockholmstadshotell.com
